Dancers
Modesto Junior College, Modesto, California
A dance class was just letting out as I walked toward the student center. Like many dance and theater kids, the students almost tumbled from the doors, unleashing their energy and high spirits into the world. I was immediately reminded of how much I wanted to be like them when I was a young adult, but how I was too shy to even look someone in the eye, let alone lift my head up to dance.
"We feel like the future is uncertain. There are so many possibilities," one told me. "People are speaking their minds, and it's creating a lot of clashing."
"I've been thinking...do you suppose one way to deal with that clashing is to divide the states into two separate countries?"
"It would work for some states," another girl said. "The big ones, with industry. Like California, and Texas. But what about everyone else?"
